THIS IS THE NEWS

A Book! So, Chain Bear's been a bit slow lately for various reasons. One of the reasons is, I've been writing a book of fairy tales and now you can buy it, wooo! It's available in paperback and in kindle form. Other ebooks will be available in a couple of months' time. Yay! Thank you for your patience. Stuart(Add Comment) (View Comments)

Site Update The old site was getting a bit tatty around the edges so we updated it! And now it's... well it's deliberately tatty around the edges this time. The main trunk is a bit thicker now and everything has a running theme. We still have to update the comment buttons, but they are dynamic and I can't do that by myself so they'll take a bit longer. Do check out the stickers at the bottom of the page - those are some comics I recommend! Stuart (Add Comment) (View Comments)

Other work by Chain Bear Hi Guys,Chain Bear, the comic is a little more relaxed these days. We're trying new things and working hard at expanding out careers to the comic is just one of a few things we're focussed on at the moment. Why not check us out around the internets?: - Stuart writes Formula 1 articles and cartoons for Sidepodcast
- Lauren writes on the convergence of art and science at Mad Art Lab
- Stuart has started writing about bad movies on Shouting at Cows
Meanwhile, we're both working on personal projects that we'll hopefully be able to reveal in due course. If you were wondering why Chain Bear is a little different, it's due to our exploration of different creative avenues! Stuart(Add Comment) (View Comments)

To tell you the Drewth To save the reputation of poor Drew, I shall reveal that Drew's contribution to Chain Bear may have been scrawled out on a touchscreen phone in the middle of the night in bed before we went to Iceland. It may also be true that Drew didn't realise he was a guest cartoonist until his third strip was published. But I can't substantiate these rumours. Stuart (Add Comment) (View Comments)

A Podcast! Surprise(ish)! We've teamed up with Tro McFelliweg to bring you a brand new, slightly naff podcast. We've been recording for over a month now, getting used to the idea and have published 4 episodes for your perusal. They're a bit raw and ropey but we're getting better with every week. So it's called The Proof is in the Popcorn (which is incredibly hard to get your tongue around when nervous) and we watch movies, pull out some choice quotes and discuss what the bloody hell they were talking about. The first three are overly relationshippy/sexual but after that we've been watching other things. Email / Temporary Website / iTunes. Stuart, Lauren and Tro (Add Comment) (View Comments)

 | This message goes out to Jeff Goldblum. Jeff, if you're a Chain Bear fan I want you to sign a photo of our cats, Jeff and Goldblum. In return they will sign a photo of you, if you wish. By which I mean they will fall asleep on it, which is their highest form of praise. We're gonna come to Kevin's theatre to watch you do your acting and we'll swing by for the autograph afterwards okay? Is that cool, Jeff? Thanks, |

Everyone Draw Mohammad - the reaction So it seems some proponents of Islam have decided the best response to EDM is Everybody Draw the Holocaust, which is weird because the holocaust isn't taboo at all. It's terrible, but it's not off limits and no one's gonna kill you for depicting it - in fact, people go out of their way to depict it in the hope of winning Oscars. Probing a little further, it seems that this is a Holocaust Denial group which is a ridiculous position but is a concept which still isn't taboo as there are holocaust deniers loud and proud everywhere. The standard response to Holocaust Denial is to call them a bunch of crazy idiots, because of evidence x, y and z - not to go physically terrorising the deniers. Hilariously they've declared, "you draw Lies about Muhammad and we draw Truth about you" (the you being Jewish people, I guess?) Wackos. Stuart Update: Apparently in some countries you aren't allowed to express denial/skepticism about the holocaust. I would argue this is as stupid as banning drawings of Mohammad. A late Charge by the Chain Bear Party Well we've just entered to race for UK Election stuff. Unfortunately because we're so late (Lauren couldn't find her purse as we were leaving) our name isn't on any of the ballots so all you have to do is add and extra box and write "Chain Bear" and put a cross next to it. Don't worry, we've sorted it all out with the constituencies, it's all cool. What are our policies?
- Reduction in overall bear-baiting per capita
- Less volcanoes
- More boobs (but less earthquakes)
- Over 60 new flavours
- Lost will never end
Remember - a vote for Chain Bear is a vote for us. Stuart(Add Comment) (View Comments)

Opportunity to Act on Libel Reform You may or may not be aware that the UK has some of the worst libel laws in the World, with the burden of proof on the 'libellor' than the subject of their critique. It also has extremely high legal costs and if you can show that a handful of people in the UK have read the questioned critique (easy in this www world), the case can be held here. Together this means that journalists and scientists (to name a couple of examples) are often stifled in publishing valuable critique of high-profile activities for fear that they will be sued at their own considerable expense. There is now a strong movement to get these laws sorted out , leanr more and to sign the petition, click here to help the interests of free criticism. Stuart (Add Comment) (View Comments)

If emails were physical meetings, the ones we get would be stopping by for a cup of tea type emails. Anyway, we got our first rebuttal email this weekend so I felt it was worth publishing and replying to in an open forum, so I created a letters part of the site and you'll find our brand new email there! Competition 104!! Ladies, Gentleman and Bear - we have a kind of competition thing! There's no real prize except honour, I guess - but here are the details: Upon perusing the archives recently, we have found, bizarrely, that there is no comic number 104! Whatever could have caused this, we wondered, and how to remedy it? Then we thought - let's give the space up to someone else! So - guys, gals and bears - we want you to send us anything you like to fit in that comic spot, where it will stand for all time. Surprise, Amuse, Shock - whatever you want. We'll put the best one up, and keep some of our favourites in the DVD Extras. Send it over by August 5th! Stuart and Lauren (Add Comment) (View Comments)

Interview I forgot to mention - Chain Bear was interviewed by The Webcomic Asylum recently. We think it went well, though for some reason, parts of the interview have turned blue! Stuart (Add Comment) (View Comments)

Opinion! We've thrown in a little section to highlight some of the blurbs of opinion thrown about the cybernet hyperspace interpages in our fledgling year. If you happen to see anything, good or bad, worth mentioning let us know! Stuart (Add Comment) (View Comments)

Salmon-Man I should point out that Salmon-Man is not our creation, but a concept piece of Zeph Gordy. You can find out more about Salmon-Man at his depository under 'Shorts'. Stuart (Add Comment) (View Comments)

Sorry for the lack of a a strip on Friday - there was some strange man asleep in the Chain Bear Command Centre (living room) who later turned out to be a friend of my housemate. Whoops. Stuart (Add Comment) (View Comments)

Due to circumstances beyond our control - and by 'beyond our control' I mean that we have totally decided ourselves - Stuart and I are severing ties with the 'Big City Moose' strip. I know, I know, 'severing' is such a harsh word to use in circumstances such as these, but, nonetheless, this is our decision. Let us not think of this departure with sadness in our hearts, but instead try to see it as a friendly push out the window, a push that might lead to bigger and better things for Chain Bear comics (Add Comment) (View Comments)

Hello everyone! Lauren and I will be taking over the running of the site from Mr Chain Bear: we are the artists after all! We're going to be refining everything a little bit and making the Chain bear experience a little better, hopefully. We're keeping the variation and stuff, but we're going to be tightening up the 'keep' filter. We've already thrown out a picture of a baby! But maybe you'll see the second rate stuff in the DVD Extras. Some people do like seeing the Directors Cut, after all. Anyway, stick with us and we'll stick with you! (Add Comment) (View Comments)
